Making the best mobile marketing choice

Mobile Internet Marketing

The day is quickly approaching when there will be more people accessing the internet from their mobile device than from their computer. Internet marketers are well aware of this trend and have started to target these users. In large part the techniques used for internet marketing are still applicable to mobile internet marketing but they do need to be tweaked. The biggest thing that has to change is the way that you get search engine traffic; it is much harder for small sites to compete for search traffic because of the different way that people search for information with their mobile device.

In large part mobile internet marketing is just like any other form of internet marketing however there are a few differences that you are going to need to factor in when you are planning your strategy. The biggest is that you are going to need to change the way that you do SEO for your website. The website itself should of course be optimized for mobile devices but the biggest challenge is that you are going to have to get people to visit your site. The problem here is that the traditional approach of a targeting long tail keyword won't work. That makes it tough to get your site ranked unless you are able to build a lot of links to your site.

The difference in the way that you do search engine optimization for a mobile device and the way you do it for traditional internet marketing has to do with the different ways that people search. When people are doing a search on their computer they tend to type in exactly what they are looking for so there are lots of long tails that you can target. The problem with mobile internet marketing is that nobody is going to stand their typing in a long tail keyword phrase. If they need a hotel in Boston they will type hotel Boston. People also tend to use search assist a lot more when they are on their mobile device, again because of the difficulty of typing. That means that they will likely only use the most widely searched terms. The result is that only the biggest sites are likely to rank well on the mobile internet.

Given the difficulty of getting your site to rank well on mobile devices most marketers have had to use other ways to get visitors to their site. The usual approach is pay per click advertising. Google has been doing this on the internet for years with Adwords and they now offer it for mobile devices as well. It works basically the same way with one crucial difference. When you place an ad on a mobile device you have the option of adding your phone number. It turns out that ads with phone numbers convert at a much higher rate than ads that don't so if your business has a phone number people can call you will definitely want to include it.
